چکیده

The Lovász Local Lemma (LLL) is a powerful tool that can be used to prove that an object having none of a set of bad properties exists, using the probabilistic method. In many applications of the LLL it is also desirable to explicitly construct the combinatorial object. Recently it was shown that this is possible using a randomized algorithm in the full asymmetric LLL setting [R. Moser and G. Tardos, 2010]. A strengthening of the LLL for the case of dense local neighborhoods proved in [R. Bissacot et al., 2010] was recently also made constructive in [W. Pegden, 2011]. In another recent work [B. Haupler, B. Saha, A. Srinivasan, 2010], it was proved that the algorithm of Moser and Tardos is still efficient even when the number of events is exponential. Here we prove that these last two contributions can be combined to yield a new version of the LLL. 1998 ACM Subject Classification G.2.1 Combinatorics; G.3 Probabilistic Algorithms

An Extension of the Moser-Tardos Algorithmic Local Lemma

A recent theorem of Bissacot, et al. proved using results about the cluster expansion in statistical mechanics extends the Lovász Local Lemma by weakening the conditions under which its conclusions holds. In this note, we prove an algorithmic analog of this result, extending Moser and Tardos’s recent algorithmic Local Lemma, and providing an alternative proof of the theorem of Bissacot, et al. ...

An Improvement of the Lovász Local Lemma via Cluster Expansion

An old result by Shearer relates the Lovász Local Lemma with the independent set polynomial on graphs, and consequently, as observed by Scott and Sokal, with the partition function of the hard core lattice gas on graphs. We use this connection and a recent result on the analyticity of the logarithm of the partition function of the abstract polymer gas to get an improved version of the Lovász Lo...

A Simple Algorithmic Proof of the Symmetric Lopsided Lovász Local Lemma

We provide a simple algorithmic proof for the symmetric Lopsided Lovász Local Lemma, a variant of the classic Lovász Local Lemma, where, roughly, only the degree of the negatively correlated undesirable events counts. Our analysis refers to the algorithm by Moser in 2009, however it is based on a simple application of the probabilistic method, rather than a counting argument, as are most of the...

An alternative proof for the constructive Asymmetric Lovász Local Lemma

We provide an alternative constructive proof of the Asymmetric Lovász Local Lemma. Our proof uses the classic algorithmic framework of Moser and the analysis introduced by Giotis, Kirousis, Psaromiligkos, and Thilikos in " On the algorithmic Lovász Local Lemma and acyclic edge coloring " , combined with the work of Bender and Richmond on the multivariable Lagrange Inversion formula.

Lecture 7 . The Cluster Expansion Lemma

We have seen the Lovász Local Lemma and its stronger variant, Shearer’s Lemma, which is unfortunately quite unwieldy in applications. Quite recently, researchers in mathematical physics discovered an intermediate form of the lemma, which seems to give results close to Shearer’s Lemma but it is much more easily applicable. First let us review a connection between Shearer’s Lemma and statistical ...
